"My work explores the tension between
geometric structure and intuitive painting."
I have been working as a graphic designer and art director for over twenty years, specializing in editorial design, including projects for publishers such as Gruner + Jahr,
Bauer Media Group and Axel Springer.
For me, painting is a logical and freer continuation of my graphic work.
At its core lies the tension between strict structure and spontaneous, intuitive gesture.
I usually begin with very thin, colored papers, which I mount onto the canvas in several layers. They overlap, show through and form intersections — creating an initial grid,
a kind of framework, which I then develop further with color, form and line.
I work with acrylic paint, chalk, markers and ballpoint pens — anything that allows for direct expression. My color palette is deliberately limited: certain tones such as light blue, pale yellow, pink, or gray recur throughout the work, punctuated by vibrant orange or bold pink accents that intensify contrast.
I paint over, glue, scratch, and wipe; layers are revealed or disappear. Chance and fragmentation are integral to my process, as is the continual dismantling of certainties.
Geometry provides structure, but the true appeal lies in the space in between — in what shines through, what remains, and what is lost and reborn.
